Selection PROCESS
Musicians for Canzonetta  qualify through an audition process.

By selecting only young people with appropriate skills, Canzonetta maintains a quality orchestra that keeps our young musicians challenged, engaged and fulfilled.
COMMUNITY
Canzonetta rehearsals take place at the Wilmette Recreation Center on Glenview Road at Skokie Road in Wilmette, but we welcome qualified young people from nearby communities.

Hand Crafted Musicians
For the past twenty years,  Hilel Kagan conducted Concertante di Chicago,  called "one of the city's gems" by the Chicago Sun Times.  Now he brings that energy and excitement to its offspring  --  Canzonetta.

Canzonetta Youth String Chamber Orchestra consists of three levels: advanced, intermediate and training.  The personal attention which all students receive in the small sized chamber orchestra is crucial for developing their individual skills.

In the advanced ensemble, the repertoire is baroque, classical and
contemporary with its high demands for technical perfection, tonal refinement and phrasing.  There is a unique atmosphere of togetherness and bonding among ensemble members enhanced through understanding their constantly fluctuating roles in the melodic, harmonic and rhythmic structure of the music.  There are rotating solo opportunities,  allowing students to feel like an important part of the ensemble.

Modeled after the advanced orchestra,  the intermediate orchestra uses baroque music to teaches bow techniques,  intonation,  musicality and style.   Students learn the skills of both leading and supporting roles. The training ensemble uses simple literature but with the same goal of teaching communication in varying roles.
